Biography
Nathan Ross Freeman is an Educator, Filmmaker, Playwright, Screenwriter, Producer and Father.
Nathan Ross Freeman has spent the last 21 years as the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Authoring Action. Authoring Action develops teen authors who create original written works for stage, film and publication forums addressing issues that are relevant and prevalent to human development and Change.
Authoring Action’s signature creative writing and presentation processes are noted throughout national education, cultural, civic and social systems as an indispensable innovative and nuance pedagogy. Nathan Ross Freeman has conducted Authoring Action workshops at elementary, middle and high schools throughout the state of North Carolina, and around the nation. Authoring Action has collaborated and partnered with many, many Triad religious, civic, cultural, justice, nutrition, health and granting organizations.
Nathan served as a member of the Intensive Writing Faculty teaching Playwriting and Screenwriting at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for 14 years. He has been a Guest Lecturer and Workshop presenter at a multitude of universities over the years to include Harvard, Wake Forest, Salem College Winston-Salem State, University of Pennsylvania, Haverford College, University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Charlotte and Greensboro.
Nathan Ross Freeman’s Plays have been premiered in Philadelphia, NYC, Atlanta, Washington DC, Wilmington, NC and Winston-Salem. His plays include Joshua & Hazel, Zero, Evening Sunrise, Getting Further, Your Side Mine, The Contract, Sin Of Life, Hannah Elias which won the 1997 NC Arts Council Fellowship, The Other Way Around and Little Girl Blue which was featured at the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival.
Nathan Ross Freeman’s feature films Mr. Bones, Authoring Action Documentary and Gem have screened in over 40 national and international film festivals, won 7 first place awards, 7 invitations. Screening locations include NYC, Atlanta, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Nashville, Charlotte, Los Angeles, Austin, Chattanooga, Toronto, London, Tokyo, Wales, Amsterdam, Sydney, South Africa, Ireland, Liberia, and others.
Nathan Ross Freeman grew up in Philadelphia, PA where he is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University. He is the father of five children who are now older than him and the grandfather of eight angels and deeply devoted to his Partner and wife, Constance Creasman.
